Cushions

I make a wide range of cushions using British wool, tweed and other natural, vintage and recycled materials.   They are all hand made (knitted or sewn) by me, each made from small batches of wool or pieces of tweed, using vintage buttons and backings, ensuring that almost all are a one-off.

All come with a good quality (John Lewis type standard) duck feather pad.

My prices are extremely reasonable.  I have seen similar cushions to mine retailing in Heals, Designers Guild or Ralph Lauren for more than three times the price I charge.

Knitted cushions

I design and knit a small range of cushions using various British wools such as Harris and Shetland.  My union jack design is a particular trademark, although it takes so long to make it is difficult to keep up with demand!  I also make fairisle cushions featuring a Scottie dog, plus aran cable cushions in natural shades of super chunky Shetland wool.

Tweed cushions

I am a complete enthusiast for British wool and tweed and the revitalisation of our ancient wool production heritage.  Our tweed industry is one of amazing artistry and talent in producing some of the most world's finest and most beautiful cloth and I do whatever I can to bring it make it accessible to a wider audience.  Although I have a Polish surname my mother is from the Scottish Borders where I largely grew up.  It is a traditional tweed milling area so it must be in the blood!

I source as much of the tweed I use directly from Isle of Harris producers or from Scottish Border tweed mills.  I particularly prize what is called 'range tweed'.  This is trial or experimental tweed produced by mills for their own reference when they are trying out various textures, patterns and colours.  It is only produced in small runs so that almost every cushion produced from it is a one off.  It gives a wonderful rich patchwork effect to the cushions made from it.

Some of the tweed I use  is bought at auction from reputable suppliers or private individuals.  I always try to source properly authenticated British tweed.

Besides British wool, some of the tweed  I use is a cashmere mixture and some pure cashmere.

Recycled cushions

I found such a demand for my knitted cushions - although the price, due to the time they take to make, is out of some people's reach - that I looked for another way of producing them.  I hit on the idea of recycling old jumpers and scarves into cushions.  So now I scour charity and second hand shops and online auctions for wool (they must be wool) jumpers and scarves in beautiful colours and patterns.  I then felt them up on a hot wash, cut them into cushions with velvet backs and finished with vintage buttons.  Every one is unique.

Commissions

If you are looking for a particular colour or size of cushion and can't find it in my current collection then please ask me to make one especially for you.
